There's a particular kind of light that only shows up in summer: golden, unhurried, spilling across a room like it has nowhere else to be. At Knook Interiors, this is the season we design for all year long. Summer isn't just a mood. It's a masterclass in how a home should feel: open, breathing, alive.

So this month, we're pulling back the curtains (literally) on our favourite way to think about summer design; not as decoration, but as a dialogue between inside and out.

The Philosophy: Let the Summer In

Bringing the outside in isn't about filling a room with plants and calling it done. It's about softening the line between where your home ends and the earth begins. A breeze moving through sheer linen. A windowsill doing double duty as a plant shelf and a place to rest your coffee. Light treated like a material, not an afterthought.

The goal isn't a "summer look." It's a room that finally lets summer happen to it.

Three Ways We're Styling This Season

1. Texture over trend. Skip the seasonal throw pillows in favour of raw, tactile materials. Think rattan, linen, unfinished wood, stone. These are textures that already belong outside, so they carry that ease indoors without trying too hard.

2. Let one room go barefoot. Every home deserves a space that feels like a porch, even if it isn't one. A reading nook with a woven chair. A breakfast corner with nothing between you and the window. Choose one room this summer and simplify it until it feels like sitting outside.

3. Colour borrowed from the garden. Sun-bleached terracotta, sage, driftwood, ocean glass, these aren't "summer colours," they're colours summer already owns. Borrowing them indoors is the fastest way to make a space feel seasonal without a full redesign.

A Small Ritual Worth Starting

Bring one thing in from outside this week — a cutting, a single stem, a potted herb from the garden, and give it a place of honour somewhere you'll actually see it: the kitchen counter, the edge of a desk, the middle of the dining table. Don't overthink the vase, a water glass works just as well.

It sounds small, but it changes how a room reads. A single living thing does more to soften a space than an entire shelf of styled objects. Let this be the start of a habit, not a one-time gesture; one new cutting each week, until the house is quietly, unmistakably in bloom.
