Valentine’s Day is one of the most emotionally driven booking periods of the year. Whether

it’s a romantic break or friends Galentine’s celebration, guests aren’t just looking for a place to stay; they’re looking for an experience that feels indulgent, thoughtful and memorable.

I’m Chelsea, founder of Knook Interiors and interior designer to serviced accommodation hosts. One of the most effective ways I help elevate romantic stays this time of year is by creating a spa-at-home experience for guests. The good news? This doesn’t require major renovations, just considered choices and high-quality finishing touches.

Below, I’m sharing four practical ways hosts can create a memorable Valentine’s retreat.

1. Luxury Home Scents Set the Mood

Scent is always one of the first things guests notice on their arrival.

I regularly recommend luxury bath and home fragrance products because they instantly elevate a property from functional to indulgent. Subtle, sophisticated scents in bathrooms and living spaces create a calming, spa-like atmosphere and quietly signal quality.

My designer advice: Choose fragrances that feel warm and grounding for Valentine’s stays. Consistency matters, so make sure to use a cohesive fragrance throughout the property, creating a high-end feel.

2. Turn the Bathroom into a Private Spa

For romantic stays, I suggest treating the bathroom as part of the experience and not just a practical space.

High-end bath products, plush towels and soft robes encourage guests to slow down and indulge. When a bathroom feels like a boutique hotel spa, guests naturally linger longer and associate the property with relaxation and luxury.

Small changes I suggest that make a big impact:

  • Premium towels with real weight and softness like the Christy Renaissance Towels in colour Mink for durability

  • Tielle Luxury Spa Waffle Robe matching robes styled neatly on the bed or bathroom hooks on hangers.

  • Beautifully packaged bath products displayed and bundled intentionally, perfect for guests to use during their stay or a take home gift.

These details also photograph incredibly well which guests will love to share.

3. Let’s Talk Bedding

If there’s one area I always tell hosts not to compromise on, it’s the bedroom.

Luxury bedding, pillows and duvets aren’t just comfort upgrades, they’re also review drivers. Guests may not remember every detail of their stay but they will remember sleeping exceptionally well.

As a designer, I recommend layering crisp, quality bedding with generous pillows and a duvet to create that sink-in feeling guests associate with hotel stays. Look at an oxford shaped pillowcase as a great way to add style to white linen.

Interior Designer’s Styling tip: Keep bed linen neutral, white and high-quality. Plain, white bedding almost always feels more luxurious than bold patterns (that’s why hotels always use them). It allows texture, quality and craftsmanship to take centre stage while appealing to a broader audience. Add colour, pattern and texture in the decorative cushions and throws.

4. Create Thoughtful Moments with Ready-Mixed Cocktails

Memorable moments are all about ease and removing decision making is part of what makes a stay feel special.

I suggest ready-mixed cocktails to hand like the Edmunds Strawberry Daiquiri Cocktail, red in colour and perfect for a Valentine’s retreat. Pair the cocktail with curated glassware for elevated hosting. This allows guests to enjoy a celebratory moment without leaving the property. Whether it’s a pre-dinner drink or a relaxed night in, this small touch transforms an ordinary evening into something memorable.

Presentation is key:

  • Choose quality stylised glassware. Don’t be afraid of colour if the style works with your overall rental's design!

  • Display cocktails intentionally rather than hiding them away so guests can see them.

  • Change lighting with warm bulbs to create a glowy, evening ready atmosphere.

Final Thoughts: Romance Really Is in the Details

From a commercial point of view, creating a spa-style romantic retreat isn’t just about aesthetics, it’s also about performance.

By investing in curated products, hosts can create an experience that feels intentional, romantic and relaxing. When guests feel genuinely looked after, perceived value increases, often leading to stronger reviews, repeat bookings and a clearer point of difference in a competitive market.

As an interior designer working within the serviced accommodation sector, I know first-hand how strategic design upgrades can transform both the look and performance of a space without the need for a full renovation. It’s about making smart, considered changes that allow your property to work harder and attract the right guests without relying on discounts or gimmicks.
